Charles Schwab Lowers Fees on ETFs

Marie Chandoha, President and CEO, Charles Schwab Investment Management (CSIM) speaks with Julie Cooling, Founder and CEO, RIA Channel to discuss trends in the financial advisor and retail investment channels. With over $280 billion in assets under management and as one of the largest issuers of exchange traded funds (ETFs), CSIM delivers both active and passive investment strategies. Chandoha emphasizes the importance of being a low cost provider, and Schwab recently announced that they are again, lowering the fees on their ETFs. Chandoha thinks the new DOL rule will be a game changer across the advisor marketplace. Asset managers will be forced to lower management fees and more advisors will shift to fee-based cost structures with their clients. Popular, solution-based offerings, such as their recently launched target date funds that utilize ETFs may gain traction in such an environment.
