As part of the Business Advisory Services team’s most recent quarterly TrendWatch publication, the keynote article “Direct Indexing and Custom SMAs: Growth Accelerates, But Pace of Adoption Varies Globally” focuses on how investment managers are expected to design portfolios to meet investors’ specific needs and how more recent market innovation have made the delivery of custom offerings to advisors and their clients possible. This webcast session will discuss many aspects of the growing direct indexing and custom SMA landscape including:

  • Investor demands for tax optimization and values-based offerings (e.g., ESG preferences) leading to uptick of personalization
  • Early solution offerings using traditional fund building blocks that promoted the manager’s expertise but new technologies are allowing for more tailored solutions that are built around the investor
  • Combination of technology and recent market innovation have accelerated the possible delivery of customization and direct indexing to advisors and their clients
  • Multitude of factors ranging from demographics to regulation and industry structure are resulting in the US market outpacing other regions in the adoption of a tailored solution approach as illustrated by the uptick in related M&A activity
  • Adoption of more sophisticated wealth solutions vary globally based on the distribution approach and maturity of the wealth system, but technology advances may soon narrow such gaps
