Britta Ferguson, Senior Vice President and Financial Advisor for Wealth Enhancement, joined RIA Channel at Morgan Stanley’s Second Annual “Integrated Firm Summit” to discuss how an integrated approach can help advisors address complex wealth management challenges.
Ferguson emphasizes that investment, tax, and estate planning should work together rather than operate in silos. She explains that advisors cannot provide comprehensive investment advice without understanding a client’s tax situation, risk management needs, asset protection considerations, and legacy goals.
For clients with concentrated stock positions, Ferguson notes that diversification decisions are often complicated by strong conviction in the company and significant tax consequences. Rather than focusing solely on performance, she encourages advisors to identify clients’ broader goals and consider strategies that can create liquidity, address estate taxes, or support charitable objectives. Ferguson adds that private markets and advanced strategies can help advisors move beyond the traditional 60/40 portfolio while building solutions designed to work together.
