At Eventide, we believe that value creation is an underappreciated source of alpha–and, conversely, value extraction can be an underappreciated source of risk.

A common misuse of the term “value creation” in business implies extracting value from one stakeholder in order to add value to shareholders. This practice can appear to work over the short term, but can also backfire. A more complete understanding of value creation means adding value to one stakeholder can result in additional value for others, including shareholders.
