TD Ameritrade’s Healy On Recruiting The Next Generation Of Advisors

Kate Healy, Managing Director of Institutional Marketing, TD Ameritrade met with Julie Cooling, Founder & CEO, RIA Channel to discuss ways to attract the next generation of Financial Advisors. This year, TD Ameritrade 2018 included over 50 students representing 28 universities.   “We really wanted to raise awareness of what a fantastic job the RIA job is,” explained Healy on TD’s efforts to expose a younger, more diverse generation to financial planning. The conference allows students to have one-on-one time with advisors as well as attend several break out sessions. TD also sponsors a number of programs, scholarships and grants to encourage new talent to join the industry.  Healy, responsible for “Generation Next” believes that the phrase really means “anyone who is not here today.” So in addition to building relationships with student programs, TD’s women’s initiative focuses on CFP mentoring.  A reported 250 women became CFPs through the program in 2017. Healy encourages both advisors and students to utilize internships as much as possible.  She believes it is a great way for students to try out different models and for advisors to get on campus and build relationships.
