Nick Foley, Senior Portfolio Manager, Segall Bryant & Hamill met with Julie Cooling, Founder & CEO, RIA Channel to discuss the value of actively managed municipal strategies. According to Foley, there are roughly 70,000 municipal bond issuers and over a million bonds offered in the municipal marketplace. “There’s a lot of opportunity to generate value as an active manager,” says Foley on the fragmented market. Rather than take the broad exposure of a muni index, the firm narrows the scope based on considerations of credit, valuations, or taxes.
