PGIM Investments On Biggest Opportunities & Market Risks

Brian Ahrens,
Senior Vice President Director, Strategic Investment Research Group (SIRG) at PGIM Investments discusses the biggest opportunities and risks in the market according to leading investment management professionals, and how advisors can leverage variable annuities to take advantage.

Established over 30 years ago, the SIRG organization, a division of PGIM Investments, offers investment consulting, manager due diligence, investment strategy, portfolio construction and implementation of technology solutions. Each year, the firm surveys senior investment professionals across the asset management industry. 2020’s survey results represent the views of nearly 70 managers, who in aggregate, manage more than $23 trillion in assets.

Conducted between August 26th – September 14th, the survey’s timely and relevant findings reveal attitudes and sentiment around the economy, financial markets, and risk. While a strong majority of respondents expect the U.S. GDP growth to continue and economic conditions to improve, there is a sense of cautious optimism. The survey results also cover a number of major themes such as global growth despite uncertainty, long-term inflation outlook, the Fed’s next moves, winning sectors and the ongoing risk of COVID-19.

The collective sentiment from the survey provides perspectives on where some of the brightest minds in the industry are finding the most compelling opportunities, and the biggest risks. In this course, we will present the findings from our most recent survey as well as examine how active managers are currently positioning their portfolios and how that positioning has evolved over time. The course will conclude with a discussion of some of the biggest themes at play in the market today and how advisors can position their client’s variable annuity portfolios to take advantage.
