MSCI also puts a big emphasis on ESG education, and works closely with advisors to help them build expertise around ESG investing and ESG integration. Lawrence explains that investors don’t have to choose between strong performance and ESG investing.

According to Lawrence, “A growing body of research suggests that ESG factors have, in fact, contributed to long-term financial performance.” According to a study by MSCI, companies with higher ESG ratings were associated with higher profitability and less exposure to risk.
