Eric Harrison, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of IEQ Capital, joined Julie Cooling, Founder and CEO of RIA Channel, at iCapital Connect 2026 to discuss IEQ’s investment approach in private markets.
IEQ Capital is a registered investment advisor with approximately $46.6 billion in regulatory assets under management. Through a range of public markets and exclusive private investments, the firm focuses on delivering highly customized portfolios tailored to each client’s unique needs. Harrison highlights that IEQ has larger allocations to illiquid assets than the industry average. He also adds that the firm, which started in California, continues to expand nationally, with offices across major U.S. markets.
IEQ prioritizes dynamism as the firm is continually monitoring conditions and ready to shift among a variety of options to capitalize on opportunities created when the market environment changes. Harrison notes that the current private markets landscape is increasingly complex, shaped by ongoing exogenous shocks such as geopolitical conflict. IEQ finds that this flexibility can help generate more predictable cash flows, minimize downside market volatility, and maximize the power of compounding returns.
From an allocation perspective, Harrison emphasizes the importance of passive equities and a domestic focus, noting that Europe is discounted relative to the U.S. He also highlights the value of investing in GP stakes, which can get the investor into the seat of a GP while avoiding the dependency on a specific vintage year.
