Developing deeper client relationships through sustainable investing – New York Life Investments – 11.12.19
Summary:
Now On Demand.
Sustainable investing has blossomed in recent years as awareness has been driven by environmental, societal and governance events, with more investors seeking information about ESG strategies and committing assets to ESG strategies. Sustainable Investing now accounts for more than one out of every four dollars under management in the U.S., according to the US SIF, with 26% managed on behalf of individual investors – roughly $3 trillion – at the end of 2018. There is a perceived generational divide in investor views of sustainable investment strategies—younger investors such as Millennials and Generation X are viewed to care more about the impact of their investments than older investors such as the Baby Boomers. But is this perception accurate? To find out, we surveyed around 600 investors across different age, income, and wealth brackets (with at least $250,000 in investable assets). The results uncovered revealed the perception about sustainable investing differs from reality.
Join us for a live webcast to discuss:
Underperformance perception is top obstacle
The traditional view: Younger investors have highest awareness of ESG funds
Advisor recommendations still greatest factor in ESG investor interest
Direct correlation between length of advisor’s client relationship and ESG adoption
ESG interest does not reflect having more investable assets or high household income
The emerging view: The rise of the “values-driven” investor
Environmental factors have the highest levels of interest
