BVAL – Why Brand Matters

Larry Medin, CEO, Brandometry met with Julie Cooling, Founder & CEO, RIA Channel to discuss the strategy behind his brand-focused ETF: BVAL.

The thesis around BVAL is that a significant portion of the S&P 500’s market cap weight is in intangibles, such as brand value. Intangibles include patents, intellectual property or overall brand and good will. Medin created BVAL to exploit the power of these intangibles, and specifically the ability to identify undervalued stocks.

The BVAL ETF invests in 50 stocks. Advisors are using the ETF to potentially drive alpha in their portfolio. Launched in June of 2017, BVAL has seen 40% growth in assets in 2019, and recently surpassed the $10 million in AUM mark. “We are very optimistic about the years ahead,” said Medin.
