Frank Berry, Client Portfolio Manager, Executive Director, FS Investments joined Julie Cooling, Founder & CEO, RIA Channel to discuss the state of the fixed income market and why advisors should consider allocating to private credit.
Today’s fixed income market is faced with historically low yields, rising rates, inflation, and duration risk. Many advisors are looking beyond traditional core fixed income sectors to private credit, in order to deliver enhanced yield, diversification benefits, and protect from duration and inflation risk.
Private credit, historically reserved for institutional investors, has seen an emergence of innovative structures, managers and strategies geared for advisors and their high net worth clients. Berry cautions that “A structure is not a strategy,” and emphasizes the importance of proper due diligence and really understanding the risk / return profile.
FS offers a variety of credit solutions ranging from direct lending, semi-liquid opportunistic credit, and hedge funds: FS Credit REIT, FS Credit Income Fund, FS Multi-Strategy Alternatives Fund.
