CAPTRUST’s Mike Wunderli And BNY Pershing’s Sean Keenan On Growth And Preserving Independence

Mike Wunderli, Managing Director and Head of Mergers and Acquisitions for CAPTRUST, joined Sean Keenan, Managing Director and Head of Sales for BNY Pershing, on RIA Channel at BNY INSITE 26 to discuss how private equity can fuel growth for independent advisors.

As consolidation continues to accelerate, Wunderli emphasizes the importance of preserving independence while building the scale needed to compete with larger Wall Street-style firms. As clients become more complex and sophisticated, he believes independent firms must find the delicate balance between maintaining a boutique feel and white-glove service while still offering a wide array of services and resources on par with large firms.

Wunderli also highlights CAPTRUST’s approach to mergers and acquisitions. He explains that CAPTRUST focuses on firms it believes will fit within the organization and benefit both parties over the long term. Rather than changing how acquired firms interact with or serve their clients, CAPTRUST looks for areas where its additional resources and services can add value. He emphasizes the importance of preserving the advisor-client relationship, which he describes as core to the business.
