MFS’ Chris Hedges On Meeting The Needs Of Advisors And Their Clients

Chris Hedges, Managing Director of the Wealth Management Group at MFS Investment Management, joined Julie Cooling, Founder and CEO of RIA Channel, to discuss how the firm supports advisors through financial planning tools and a wrapper-agnostic investment lineup.

In December 2024, MFS launched active ETFs in five key strategies: large value, large growth, international core, taxable fixed income, and tax-free fixed income. These launches were driven by demand from clients who appreciate the active management capabilities of MFS but would prefer to invest in ETFs rather than in mutual funds. MFS now offers active management strategies in a variety of wrappers, including ETFs, SMAs, mutual funds, and collective investment trusts (CITs).

Advisors are the core business of MFS, as the firm doesn’t have a direct-to-consumer business.  MFS would prefer to be a partner to advisors rather than a vendor, as the firm offers support in a variety of areas, including practice management resources. Advisors have been using the Heritage Planning® tool for over 30 years, which provides client resources on Medicare, Social Security, 529 Plans, estate planning, and a variety of other planning issues. MFS also provides intergenerational planning tools for advisors to build bridges to the next generation.
