2022 Private Market Trends & Allocation Considerations

Mark Perry, Managing Director at Wilshire discusses 2022 global private market trends, portfolio allocation considerations and market challenges.

Public markets have compressed, opportunities in private markets continue to expand as companies stay private longer, and innovations in investment structures have made once institutional-only private sectors more accessible to advisors. At the same time, the current market environment is still reeling from pandemic-related uncertainty and inflation concerns, driving investors even further towards private markets for diversification, enhanced returns and inflation protection. While private markets exposure is more easily accessible today than it was in the past, still obstacles remain. Due diligence and investment selection are critical to performance, explains Perry, pointing to the wide range of performance from one private investment or fund to the next.

Perry reviews his thoughts on 2022 global mega trends:  inflation, innovation, Covid and ESG and highlights potential corresponding opportunities across the private markets landscape.

Mr. Perry serves on Wilshire’s Private Markets Manager Research Committee and is responsible for sourcing, performing due diligence on and monitoring investments across private markets sectors within the U.S. and Canada. Prior to joining Wilshire, Mr. Perry was a Vice President at Centinela Capital Partners. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
