Qualified Opportunity Zone Investing – Griffin Capital Company – 8.22.19

Summary:

On Demand Soon.

It has been more than a year and a half since the “Investing in Opportunity Act” was passed in December 2017, and since then there has been extensive media exposure regarding the potentially significant savings in capital gains taxes. Join us for an in-depth and interactive educational presentation that will cover the current state of the legislation, what we have learned about how funds will be structured, what strategies and property types will be pursued/developed, and how this reality compares to the original goal of stimulating private investment in low-income communities by offering substantial tax benefits. Specific session topics will include:

  • Examination of potential tax benefits offered by Qualified Opportunity Zone Funds (“QOZFs”), including tax deferral, reduction, and elimination (“DRE”), and the upcoming deadlines for investors to qualify for all three layers of benefits
  • Advanced analysis of QOZ legislation – including new guidance issued April 17, 2019 by the Treasury Department and IRS
  • Investigation of QOFs in the market today, including key differences in structure, strategy, real estate asset classes, benefits, risks and critical timelines
  • Profile of three main groups of investors who are showing keen interest in QOFs
