Michael Bell, Founder & Managing Director at Primark Capital joined Julie Cooling, Founder & CEO, RIA Channel to discuss why advisors should consider allocating to private markets now and how Primark is uniquely positioned to deliver simplified, efficient access to private equity.
In the last 25 years, public markets have shrunk in half, while the average market cap of companies going public has multiplied roughly eight times. Small and mid cap companies that may have IPO’d in the 90’s haven’t disappeared, explains Bell, they have just been instead fully capitalized by private equity firms.
While institutional investors have enjoyed the potential growth, alpha and diversification benefits of the private equity sector for decades, advisors have been somewhat left out. High minimums, investor requirements, long lock-up periods and inefficient tax requirements have been major hurdles for advisors and have ultimately limited access to a select group of their clients. Manager due diligence and investment selection are also critical factors to private market performance and can be difficult to navigate.
Primark Capital seeks to tackle these challenges head on by delivering access to the best of private equity in a simplified, tax-efficient package.
The Primark Private Equity Investments Fund (PMPEX) offers quarterly liquidity, low minimums, no investor requirements, no complicated fund docs or K1s and provides pure-play access to private equity through an integrated strategy. The fund gains its exposure in private equity through:
- Direct investments in privately held companies (40 – 60% Target Allocation)
- Investments in primary and secondary private equity funds (20 – 40% Target Allocation)
- Investments in public companies that primarily invest in private businesses (including listed funds of funds, business development companies, special purpose acquisition companies, investment trusts, closed‑end funds, and other vehicles whose primary purpose is to invest in privately held companies). (10 – 15% Target Allocation)
