Summary:

Citi Business Advisory Services focuses on how the COVID-19 Crisis is seen affecting the broader investing environment over the coming year and how survey participants anticipate that the pandemic may work to accelerate trends toward consolidation and change in the investment management industry. The discussion will touch on technology and operating model pressures for the investment managers; concerns about the potential for a boomerang crisis and expectations around how far the impacts of the health and real economy crisis might extend based on the duration of the pandemic; models of how declining AUM may impact the bar-belling of the industry, potentially leading to a new wave of M&A, targeted acquisitions, team lift-outs or new types of affiliation models to achieve scale; emergence of “Wave 3” solutions that move the industry to a new realm of personalization and are seen taking into consideration not only investor’s assets, but also their liabilities; and which technology has become a competitive necessity to meet the resiliency requirements of the pandemic age and how demands are growing for operational optionality and for greater leverage of firm’s own data and insights.
