David Perkins, CEO and Co-Founder of Hatteras Investment Partners joined Keith Black, Managing Director of RIA Channel to discuss Hatteras’ approach to alternative investing, public market challenges and private equity allocation considerations.
Hatteras Investment Partners has invested over $6 billion in alternative investments since its founding in 2003. The boutique asset manager’s core mission is to strengthen the relationship between the Advisor and the Investor through performance-focused private investment solutions, designed to help build more robust and resilient portfolios.
An allocation to alternatives has the potential to protect from public market volatility, add diversification, and increase alpha. Moving forward, the 60/40 portfolio will continue to be challenged, says Perkins pointing to equity and bond market uncertainty.
Alternative investing is not without its obstacles. Historically, private equity partnerships have only been available to qualified purchasers who have a net worth exceeding $5 million and require long lock up periods. Additionally, it is difficult to remain invested at a target weight in private equity due to the years it takes for capital to be called and the distribution of capital after the exit events of the portfolio companies.
Hatteras’ platform will provide clients with easy-to-implement, single-investment solutions designed to remove many of the obstacles and complications associated with building private investment programs.
Included is an investor-friendly fund structure with differentiated quarterly liquidity options. P10 Advisors, LLC (“P10”) will be the Sub-Adviser of the Funds. P10 provides access to a suite of well-established, niche-oriented investment managers in private markets that are typically difficult to access. P10’s primary investment philosophy is that smaller capitalization buyouts can have the potential to produce superior returns to investors relative to other segments within the private equity asset class. As of December 31, 2022, P10, through its various affiliates had approximately $21.28 billion in fee-paying assets under management, 118 investment vehicles and 107 full-time professionals.
