Galaxy’s Cappelli On Digital Assets

Galaxy's Cappelli On Digital Assets Julie Cooling, Founder & CEO, RIA Channel interviewed Paul Cappelli, Portfolio Manager at Galaxy Digital Asset Management. GDAM is one of the largest asset managers in the digital assets ecosystem offering investment opportunities in a diversified basket of cryptocurrencies, bitcoin-only vehicles, and venture funds. Galaxy Digital operates four main business verticals including digital assets trading, advisory, principal investing, and asset management. The firm was founded by Michael Novogratz who was a previous partner at Goldman Sachs and President of Fortress Investment Group. Their investment thesis is simple. Galaxy Digital is investing early into a new and evolving asset class: the digital ecosystem. This ecosystem includes cryptocurrencies and companies that utilize blockchain technologies. For investors that may be unfamiliar with bitcoin, firms like Galaxy Digital facilitate liquidity, custody, trading, and access via indexed products and private funds. Since bitcoin does not trade via traditional markets, participation by broader investors is limited. However, Cappelli points out that this is changing. New security infrastructure, custody, and trading mechanisms are enabling growth of this asset class, and Cappelli believes that enhancements will draw further demand. Millennials are already embracing digital assets, and despite its volatility, bitcoin has performed well on a one-, three-, five-, and ten-year basis.
