What are jobless claims?

Jobless claims measure U.S. unemployment, and is reported weekly by the Department of Labor (DOL). Jobless or unemployment insurance claims are economic indictors for the overall health of the economy. The higher the jobless claims, the worse the state of the economy. Initial unemployment insurance claims include first time declarations of such insurance.
